September 11—My Dad, A Bike & A Team Effort

Lotoja Dad on Bike

Lotoja time again, and this year glad to not be in bed recovering from last years fun birthing experience I was excited to hit the road and help my dad make it to the finish line.

My dad started early with my Uncle Mike.  We headed out to Amalga to watch the pack come by in the dark.  This might be the most exciting part of the day.  You can hear the whir from the bike wheels and the clicking of changing gears before you can even see the pack of bikes coming.  And when you do see them—they are cruising.

The next stop was Preston where it was subzero temperatures, and then we were off to Montpelier.  Dad’s friend Ryan met up with us in Montpelier and hopped on to ride with my dad.

Ryan rode his guts out and put up with the car full of nuts that my dad called his support team.

Lotoja Finish Line

Dave hopped on at Holback Junction and everyone finished together.

Here is my dad with the Stryker team that sponsored him.  (Uncle Mike, Dad, Bradey’s friend, my cousin Bradey)  It has been fun to see my dad and his brother find a hobby that they both love, but I can just imagine my Grandma Lee watching over them and wishing they had picked something a little less strenuous.  Funny coincidence  my Uncle Mike, my dad, and Bradey all have the same birthday—September 12 –one day after the race.

Note to dad—you have always taught us that if we want something we just need to make it happen.  It has been inspirational to watch you train and work so hard, and more then that it has been amazing to see how a goal of yours has become an endeavor for the whole family.

So, next year I’ll be joining dad  (if I can get a ticket) on a relay team.  Here’s to a year of padded shorts, butt paste, and shot blocks!! :)
